Being part of this project is meaningful in many ways, one of which was this was an opportunity to do something good for one of our most important group of humans, women. Dementia, a prevalent condition affecting many, is a disease that needed to be talked about more. When my aunt was diagnosed with dementia years ago, there was a lack of easily accessible information for families. Improved awareness like this could have better prepared her for the challenges in her later years.
Discovering that dementia is the leading cause of death among women in the UK was surprising, emphasizing the need for urgent attention. Equally astonishing is the realization that simple lifestyle changes, such as maintaining a healthier diet and regular exercise, can reduce the risk. Monitoring blood pressure, avoiding smoking, and practicing moderation in drinking are additional effective measures. These insights underscore the importance of proactive health choices in mitigating the impact of dementia.
